LISTEN TO THIS JAM
I wrote this song right after Hannah and I first met, when in the first couple weeks of our relationship, we spent several beautiful afternoons doing nothing in a nearby park that overlooked Lake Michigan. This is an August, 2002, live track by my jam band, The Matthew Dallman Band. This was my going-away gig, right before Hannah and I left the friendly confines of the Twin Cities and trekked eastward to Brooklyn (to proceed past Brooklyn and straight to Chicago shortly thereafter).

This guitar solo is probably the best solo that I ever got on tape.

In The Shade

performed by The Matthew Dallman Band

Lyrics

In the shade,
Sittin' against the oak tree,
And we see colors.

In the shade,
Wind runs around our faces,
And the birds, oh how they glide.

Here with ourselves,
We rest together in a spell
In the shade, with you.

In the shade
Tangle up our hands
And wet leaps of a grasshopper
Blankets and layers of a great lake breeze.

In the shade
Our hands hold the millions of years
In ten thousand different ways.

Here with ourselves,
We rest together in a spell
In the shade, with you.
