MORE MUSIC!
JAMBAND MEETS JUNGLE!

four-piece jamband

MacPhail's Jungle

performed by The Matthew Dallman Band

The Matthew Dallman Band performed at Mario's Keller Bar, in Minneapolis, in August, 2002. MacPhail's Jungle was the evening's first song. It is my tribute to our bassist -- Matt MacPhail, to whom I had taught the basic riff nary a week before. Not much was decided on, except that we'd improvise live. At the show, our drummer, Timm Elmquist, wanted to know a tempo for the drum part. I just said, "fast and as simple as you can make it."

The saxophonist, Adam Maas, showed up at the last moment, so this performance was the first time he'd heard this. So it was really, really spontaneous. We all knew each other pretty well, which makes mixin' it up all the more easier.

You know those times when the band first gets a song right? There is a magic to that first time. You wish, oftentimes, you had recorded that first successful run-through.

Well, this is that time for this song. And it is on tape.
