Commision New Music from Matthew
What does it mean 'to commission'?
To commission music is to pay a composer to compose music from a specific purpose or event. Anyone can commission music, for nearly any reason. You can provide a wonderful service to the music world with a new music commission, and you can have brand new music, composed for your particular needs, to enrich your events, concerts, websites, presentations, and special occasions. Or, you can commission because you enjoy the past works of a composer, and want more of the composer's art. All in all, everyone benefits from new music in the world. You can be a driving force for new music from Matthew.
For what sort of purpose can you commission Matthew?
Matthew has been commissioned to compose new music for several purposes. These include wedding and commitment ceremonies, films, a magazine-sponsored live concert, musician recitals, and more. You can examine samples of Matthew's music here. Matthew can compose in any style of music, from classical to experimental, chamber to choral, rock to jazz and bluegrass. He can compose for non-Western instruments. Matthew can provide more samples upon request.
How would it work?
You would contact Matthew, and explain the purpose or event for which you would like new music. The two of you would work together so that there is a mutual understanding of the kind of music you have in mind, or if you don't have a particular kind of music in mind, then the nature of the event or purpose for the commissioned music. Factors such as purpose, duration of the music, kind of instrumentation, and overall time frame would be agreed upon beforehand. A contract is signed, and then Matthew provides new music for you or your event at the agreed-upon time. It is pretty simple, actually.
What is Matthew's commission rate?
This is worked out on a project-by-project basis. Matthew uses a sliding scale, which takes into account your financial conditions. He has received commissions as low as $250 for a 5 minute piece of music.
There are various practical aspects to consider when we would decide upon the commission rate. He is very willing to work out an arrangement to compose new music especially for you, so if you want new music, but aren't sure of how much you can pay, go ahead and contact Matthew anyway. He wants to work for you to create a fabulous music experience.
