T H E E L E C T R I C F L O W Current #4 - Summer 2004 Electric Goose Productions
Friends, It's Matthew. And this is the The Electric Flow. I hope your summer (or winter) is going well, and coming to an orchestrated close. I have been buoyed by many notable events of late. An especially important one provides a small gift I'd like to offer to you....see the end of this email for details. Thank you for your subscription to The Electric Flow! On a personal
note, Hannah and I purchased our first house earlier this summer. It is a house in the
Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago, and almost 80 years young! We have great tenants in
the other two units. Complete trip to be a landlord. Read more here.
In May, I
co-presented the Integral Artistry Intensive in Boulder, with Willow Pearson and
John Forman. To describe the weekend workshop would take several more newsletters. We
focused on interior Artist/self identity, the nature of artwork critique,
business-for-artists, plenty of small-group work, and ongoing meditation on the wonderful
art brought by the participants. Sufficed to say, it was an enriching and memorable
experience. We got great feedback from the 16 integral artists in attendance. The first
of many such workshops, to pop alchemical engines into the high-gear of the soul. Thanks
to all of you who attended. It was wild, eh!
After the
workshop, I headlined an art event sponsered by The Manifest. Not only did I
perform a solo-set of plainchants, pop songs, and classical guitar compositions, but a new
composition for marimba -- A Whirling Tango -- was debuted by Jennie Dorris,
a wonderful musician. Lots of friends showed up to pack the intimate Burnt Toast
coffeeshop, in the heart of Boulder. Many thanks to Paul Salamone and Andy Acker for the
opportunity.
And I'm thrilled
that A Whirling Tango is showcased on IntegralNaked.org! Many thanks to
Jennie Dorris and Jason Digges for their efforts to record the piece, and thanks to
IntegralNaked! Here is the link to
the piece. In fact, you can listen to my composition, as well as everything on the
site, free for one
month.
Work continues to
build the Integral Art Center of Integral University. Many of the by-products of
my ongoing scholarship are available on my website in the Writings
section. I continue to publicly author my article The Embrace of Sound (itself a
rather interesting experiment), and behind the scenes I continue to manifest my first
book. All in all, the short story is that www.IntegralUniversity.org, as a home for over
25 Integral Centers, and a worldwide learning community, is imminent! Very exciting!
In August,
Hannah, myself, and a film crew of 3 others travelled to San Francisco to film a
documentary of W.A. Mathieu. We spent an entire 14-hr day with Allaudin and his
wife, Devi, and captured several pieces of music and interviews on film. What an
experience; Allaudin and Devi are both treasures, and everything went better than
expected. It was a true gift to be around my composition teacher. Read more here.
Energy has begun
to brew for an integral cabaret in Chicago! The IntegralChicago Artists (ICHI-Art for
short) have met in what we call cabaret laboratories, or 'cab-labs'. Much more to
come on this project, but it has been quite a rush thus far! Our projected date for
performance in Chicago is September 2005, and the event is called The Kosmic
Circus.
As promised, a
small gift to you, directly from my heart. To hear a version of my most recently recorded
composition -- my Who Am I Motet -- click here to stream the
film, and here
to download the MP3. As many of you know, this project was over 18 months in the coming,
and dare I say a milestone of sorts in my own composition efforts. I recorded it with
three top-notch Chicago choral singers last month. It is a setting of a prayer by Ken
Wilber, one that struck me from the moment I first read it, 6 years ago. Read more about
this project here. Now on the the music video for this piece, directed by Hannah!
Stay tuned!
Finally, I want
to make mention of my upcoming album -- I Am Sound. I am quite eager to present my
recent compositional work. The album cover (an amazing work by Jeff Lohrius) can
be previewed on my website, here. It looks to be ready by the beginning of October. Upon its
release, I'll let you know, with bells, special offers, and lots of aural love.
Well, that is as
brief of an update as I can offer. Hannah and I are off to Italy for 10 days, to
celebrate our belated honeymoon -- 5 years belated! We'll drink some vino for you, and
clink our glasses for all beings.
As we begin, we
end as
The Electric Flow.
